Kia ora e ngā whānau ,
By now you may have seen on the news that teachers and principals have voted to strike.
NZEI has been in negotiations with the Government to achieve a settlement that at least keeps pace with inflation while at the same time addresses the lack of resources required to support students with additional needs. These issues directly affect recruitment and retention of staff. This industrial action has been taken because of the lack of progress with these negotiations.
The strike will take place on the 16th of March. Since the majority of Birkdale staff are union members, the Board has decided classes will not operate next Thursday 16th March.
If you urgently need supervision for your child please contact the school office before 3pm, Tuesday the 14th. As we will only have a few staff members available to supervise, and limited capability due to Health and Safety, Whaea Natasha will phone you to confirm. This provision will not be suitable for students needing close or specialised supervision.
Ngā mihi nui,
Whaea Natasha
