Announcement :

REMINDER:  Term 4 finishes at 1.00pm on 20th December 2024.

Newsletter: Term 1, Week 8

  WEDNESDAY 27th March

Kia ora e ngā whānau o Birkdale,

The term is turning colder and wet weather is starting to set in. Swimming sessions will be determined by the class teacher but for the most part will start to taper off. Thank you for supporting our swim programme – it’s such an important life skill.

We have a team of dedicated student leaders at Birkdale Primary. When a child is in Y5 or 6, they are able to take on responsibility for different areas of the school.

We have leaders for road patrol, sports shed, peer mediators at break times, library as well as our house leaders who represent Birkdale in a more official capacity.

We’re grateful for all the time our leaders put in to fulfilling their responsibilities.

(Thank you McKenzie and Olivia for leaving the PE Shed better than you found it)

Ngā manaakitanga,

Whaea Natasha

SCHOOL COMMUNICATION through a NEW APP

At school, we use a system called HERO to manage all our student information.

From Term 2 we will be using the app that goes with it, for communication. That means that the kiwischools app will no longer be used.

To download the Hero app on your smartphone:

1. Search for ‘Hero” in your app store and download, or visit https://go.linc-ed.com

2. Select “New user”. Use the email address that you provided when you enrolled your children, use this address to request a password. (Please note: each contact must have their own email address)

3. Enter your email address and click the “Request Password Link”

4. Check your email! If one doesn’t arrive, ensure the school has your correct details on file.

5. Follow the secure link and enter a new password

6. Turn on push notifications!

We will offer support for those struggling to get connected so keep an eye out for that.

As you can see from the picture, you’ll be able to do all the same things you can currently do through the kiwi school app and a few more.

Some of the new features:

  • Learner hui bookings
  • Before school care balances, invoicing and receipts.
  • School information a click away
  • Eventually, we will also have learner school reports that you might normally recieve as a paper copy.

SCHOOL POLICY REVIEW

Each term we have school policies that are reviewed on our school policy website – Schooldocs. This term the policies being reviewed are:

  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi (board)
  • Board Responsibility (board)
  • Parent Involvement
  • Communicating with Parents
  • Community Conduct Expectations
  • Documentation and Self-Review Policy (board)
  • School Planning and Reporting
  • Reporting to Parents on Student Progress and Achievement

If you would like to participate in the review see the instructions below.

  1. Go to the School Docs link: https://birkdaleprimary.schooldocs.co.nz
  2. Username: birkdaleprimary Password: thehighest
  3. Look up policies and read – review using the option top right-hand side.

COLOUR RUN

Thank you so much for supporting our school fundraiser – Colour Fun Run.

The fun run will be held on Tuesday 9th April.

If you would like to watch your child, Juniors Y0-3 will be out from approx. 1:45 – 2:15pm. Seniors Y4-6 will be running from 2:15 – 2:50pm.

Your child will need to bring a towel and clothes they don’t mind getting wet and dirty – an old white shirt is great for the coloured powder.

All funds raised will be spent on a number of school projects: school gazeboes, pool cover and new turf for the netball courts.

Request

We’d like to explore redesigning our school logo to reflect some of the ideas that our learning community has shared through feedback. We wondered if there were any graphic designers that would be interested in working with us (and our limited funds!)? Thought we’d ask our local community first before branching out. If you are interested, please get in touch with Whaea Natasha and an example of the type of work you’ve done. Ngā mihi nui.

PARKING

A friendly reminder for parents to park on the side of the road not our neighbours driveways. We’d like to maintain the great relationship we have with them – that means respecting their properties. Also, in the morning the parking bay outside the pool is for dropping off without leaving your car. Please park further down the road or opposite, if you’d like to walk to your child in.

MUSIC LESSONS CONTINUE

After a successful year having Music lessons being delivered at school, we are pleased to be able to offer this again this year.

We have a new teacher joining us: Please see the advert for more information and to book directly with Cherie.
